You’ll complete self-paced online coursework that’s grounded in research and designed to prepare you for the classroom. Along the way, you’ll build a professional portfolio, engage in fieldwork, and receive one-on-one support from your candidate advisor, Special Education focused instructional coach and candidate supervisor.

Train.
As part of your preparation, you’ll complete a full-time teaching internship in an Indiana school. This hands-on experience gives you the chance to apply what you’ve learned and grow your confidence in a real classroom setting.

Teach.

Yes. Road2Teach is a state-approved Transition to Teaching program designed for individuals who hold a bachelor’s degree in any field. You do not need a traditional education degree to enroll.
What teaching license will I be eligible for through the Road2Teach Special Education program?
Upon successful completion, you’ll be eligible to apply for the Indiana Professional Educator License in Exceptional Needs: Mild Intervention (All Grades).
Is the Road2Teach Special Education T2T program approved by the Indiana Department of Education?
Yes. Road2Teach is an approved Transition to Teaching provider in Indiana, and the Special Education program meets all state licensure and curriculum standards, including the Early Literacy Endorsement requirement.
What Praxis exams will I need to pass for Special Education licensure in Indiana?
Road2Teach will help you get ready for your Praxis exams utilizing our test preparation provider and access to our team as you prepare. Road2Teach includes a voucher for your first attempt on each of the required Praxis exams for licensure.

What is the Early Literacy Endorsement and why is it required?
Indiana law requires all Special Education teachers to earn an Early Literacy Endorsement. This ensures educators are trained in the Science of Reading to help students achieve reading proficiency by third grade.
How long does the Road2Teach Special Education program take to complete?
The program is designed to be flexible and self-paced. Most candidates complete it in 12–18 months, including coursework, field experiences, and a 12-week teaching internship.
Can I work while completing this program?
Yes. The program is fully online and designed for working adults. You can complete coursework on your own schedule and even begin teaching under an transition to teaching or emergency license while enrolled.
What kind of support will I receive during the program?
You’ll be supported by a dedicated Candidate Advisor, a Special Education Instructional Coach, and a Candidate Supervisor. You’ll also have access to office hours, mentoring, and the Stride Professional Development Center.
What are the admission requirements for the Special Education program?
To join Road2Teach’s Indiana Department of Education–approved Transition to Teaching (T2T) program, you must have at least a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution. Specific requirements depend on the licensure area you’re pursuing:
For Special Education, you must meet one of the following:
- Possess a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited university with a minimum GPA of 3.0.
- Possess a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited university with a minimum GPA of 2.5-2.99 AND five (5) years of relevant professional experience.
- Possess a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited university AND proof of passing state-approved content area examination(s) in the subject area.
As a part of the admissions process for Road2Teach Indiana, applicants must also submit the following in order to be considered for admissions:
- A completed application
- A current resume or CV detailing your professional experience
- A statement of interest explaining why you want to become a teacher and why Road2Teach is a good fit
- Official transcripts from all colleges or universities attended
- A criminal background check
- A successful interview with Road2Teach Admissions staff
