Can I become a licensed teacher in Indiana without an education degree?

Yes! Road2Teach is an Indiana Department of Education approved Transition to Teaching program. If you have a bachelor’s degree in any field, we’ll help you earn your K–12 teaching license through a flexible, supportive, and affordable pathway with no education degree required.

What is Indiana's Transition to Teaching licensure pathway?

The Transition to Teaching (T2T) program is an alternative licensure route for individuals who already hold a bachelor’s degree. Road2Teach is proud to be an approved provider, offering a streamlined path to licensure that includes online coursework, field experience, and exam preparation.

What are the admission requirements for Road2Teach’s Indiana Transition to Teaching program?

To join Road2Teach’s Indiana Department of Education–approved Transition to Teaching (T2T) program, you must have at least a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution. Specific requirements depend on the licensure area you’re pursuing:

For Elementary Education and Special Education, you must meet one of the following:

  1. Possess a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited university with a minimum GPA of 3.0.
  2. Possess a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited university with a minimum GPA of 2.5-2.99 AND five (5) years of relevant professional experience.
  3. Possess a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited university AND proof of passing state-approved content area examination(s) in the subject area.

For Secondary Education, you must meet one of the following:

  1. Possess a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited university with a GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 point scale. The degree must correspond to the subject content area in which the applicant seeks to be licensed.
  2. Possess a Master’s degree from a regionally accredited university in the subject area or related field in which the person wants to teach.
  3. Possess a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited university with a grade point average of at least 2.50 on a 4.0 point scale. The degree must correspond to the subject content area in which the applicant seeks to be licensed, and the applicant has five (5) years of relevant professional experience.
  4. Possess a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited university, and proof of passing state-approved content area examination(s) in the subject area.

As a part of the admissions process for Road2Teach Indiana, applicants must also submit the following in order to be considered for admissions:

  • completed application
  • current resume or CV detailing your professional experience
  • statement of interest explaining why you want to become a teacher and why Road2Teach is a good fit
  • Official transcripts from all colleges or universities attended
  • criminal background check
  • successful interview with Road2Teach Admissions staff

How long does it take to complete the Transition to Teaching program and get licensed?

Road2Teach’s preparation pathways include two stages: online coursework and a 12-week internship (“student teaching”). Coursework is 100% virtual and self-paced, so you can progress at your own speed. We expect the majority of students will complete the program in 12-18 months, but there is no “right” length; it depends on you.

What kind of support will I receive during the program?

You’ll receive personalized support from a Candidate Advisor and Candidate Supervisor. We also provide Praxis exam prep tools, exam vouchers, and access to the Stride Professional Development Center to help you succeed every step of the way.

How much does the Road2Teach program cost?

The cost of the Road2Teach program is $4,995. This includes access to all required coursework, support from your advisors, exam preparation tools, the vouchers for your first Praxis exam attempts, and professional development resources.

Some additional expenses are not included in this cost. These may include fees for background checks, textbooks, or state licensure fees.
