Our Philosophy: Preparing Teachers Who Are Ready to Lead

We don’t just want you to pass your exams or check a box. We want you to thrive in the classroom. Our philosophy ensures that every Road2Teach candidate is equipped with the knowledge, mindset, and support to make a lasting impact on students and schools across Indiana.

At Road2Teach, we offer the best of both worlds: a convenient, self-paced program with the rigor of a traditional education setting. Designed and taught by a close team of masters-level education professors, all three Road2Teach pathways ensure that you learn using the same best practices that you’ll later use to teach others.

The coursework includes reading materials, writing-based assessments, and Praxis-style practice. Writing assessments ensure that you thoroughly understand the material while providing opportunities for regular instructor feedback. Your preclinical coursework will fully prepare you for your teaching internship (“student teaching”), while faculty guidance throughout that internship will make you “day 1 ready” for your first teaching position.

Education is changing rapidly. A core mission of Road2Teach is to ensure that our candidates are prepared for the classrooms waiting for them upon graduation.

Courses cover core staples like classroom management and behavior, along with contemporary issues including artificial intelligence, mental health, trauma-informed instruction, and the role of public policy.

We also understand the critical role of literacy in preparing children for the world. All Road2Teach candidates complete 1-2 courses devoted entirely to reading, with a foundation in the research-backed Science of Reading approach. Designed and taught by Dr. Cyndi Boggs, a reading specialist and National Teacher of the Year, this coursework will prepare you for a role addressing the literacy crisis impacting students today.

In a world of Chromebooks and hybrid learning, even the educator programs of a few years ago may already be outdated. Road2Teach was developed from the ground up in 2023 and combines best practices with the lived reality of today’s teachers. You’ll step into your classroom fully prepared in every way.

Teaching isn’t a solo endeavor, and as a Road2Teach candidate, you’ll never feel alone. From before enrollment to graduation and beyond, you’ll work with a team of experts to ensure that you stay on track with your goals.

Admissions Staff
Your first Road2Teach contact will be an admissions specialist with extensive experience in education. This person will guide you through the application, explain how and when you’ll choose a pathway (Elementary or Secondary), and regularly check in as you complete your core coursework: three courses on Teaching & Pedagogical Foundations.

Candidate Advisors
Upon finishing the core material, you’ll be paired with a Candidate Advisor (CA), your guide and advocate throughout your specialized education. Our CAs are also education professionals, and they are available to answer questions promptly or point you to the faculty or support team member who can help. Unlike the traditional teaching assistant (TA) model, you’ll have the same CA throughout the remainder of your coursework, rather than a new individual for each course. This ensures that your CA truly understands you and your goals.

Faculty
Each Road2Teach course is taught by an Ed. D. and real-world educator. Our tight-knit team of faculty have decades of combined experience as teachers, administrators, superintendents, and professors. Unlike many programs, your instructor will actually grade each written assignment, providing feedback and guidance. Instructors also are available for a minimum of two hours per week of virtual office hours, and they can be messaged at any time through our Canvas platform.

Candidate Supervisor
Before starting your 12-week internship (“student teaching”), you’ll meet virtually with your Candidate Supervisor, a faculty member and Ed. D. specialized in this process. The Road2Teach internship allows you to receive real-world classroom experience, paired with mentorship from your advisor. You’ll become highly competent in designing curriculum, enabling differentiated learning and development, and establishing inclusive learning environments.
