    Frequently Asked Questions

How does Road2Teach prepare candidates for a career in education?

Our program is designed to be relevant and based on personal relationships, both with Road2Teach instructors/advisors and with external working professionals. In the teaching internship, teacher candidates will make clinical connections with teachers and students. Their experiences in the classroom will be informed by coursework on contemporary challenges, from artificial intelligence to the fundamental nature of literacy as a driver of high-quality education. Too many programs train professionals who are already behind in today’s workplace. Road2Teach ensures that teachers are ready from day one.

Which licenses does Road2Teach prepare candidates for?

Road2Teach has 2 approved Educator Preparation Programs for aspiring Indiana teachers.

The elementary education program prepares those individuals who would like to teach K-6 students.

The secondary education program prepares those individuals who would like to teach in 5-12 grade classrooms.

What are the requirements for acceptance?

As a Indiana Department of Education Approved Transition to Teaching Program, Road2Teach requires candidates to have a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited university. Successful applicants must also meet minimum GPA standards and have sufficient relevant work experience, if applicable. We view each candidate individually and holistically. Our admissions staff are close at hand to guide applicants through the process.

    How long is the program?

Road2Teach’s preparation pathways include two stages: online coursework and a 12-week internship (“student teaching”). Coursework is 100% virtual and self-paced, so individuals can progress at their own speed. We expect the majority of students will complete the program in 12 months, but there is no “right” length; it depends on the individual.

    Who are the faculty?

Our program was developed and is taught by a close-knit team of Ed.Ds (doctors of education), who have extensive expertise designing and teaching graduate-level education curricula. This academic acumen is coupled with real-world experience; our faculty have worked in every role imaginable within the education system, from teacher to principal to superintendent and even dean and in public, private, charter, and non-public school settings. Road2Teach faculty are uniquely aware of the staffing challenges facing schools and districts today and are excited to partner with you.

Can individuals participate in Road2Teach while working full-time?

Yes! T2T is intended for those taking “non-traditional” paths to education, whether through a career change or returning to the workforce after starting a family. Even among T2T options, the virtual, self-paced, and personalized nature of Road2Teach makes it particularly suited for balance with life obligations. The Road2Teach program is a great fit for those individuals looking to start teaching while completing their educational preparation.

    How demanding is the coursework?

Road2Teach courses are meticulously structured to provide the same level of preparedness as traditional teacher certification programs. With a firm foundation in research and theory, the program is rigorous, with frequent assessments including written assignments. However, the support that students receive—from faculty, candidate advisors, virtual group events, and a close peer network—is unparalleled. And of course, the self-paced nature means that candidates can find a balance which works for them while completing the program.

If our school/district has identified potential teachers they would like to hire, is this the right program for them?

Absolutely! Think of Road2Teach as your partner to create a “Grow Your Own” program for your school or district. Road2Teach is designed to support individuals already in or desire to be in the classroom who need a high quality, research founded educational preparation program which provides flexibility for busy teachers. We offer options for individual teaching candidates to join an existing cohort and can also support school and district specific cohorts to start when you need them, not when the traditional academic calendar says they can start.

How can Road2Teach support your new and potential teachers with our cohort programs?

Road2Teach offers tailored solutions for your teacher preparation needs. We provide two distinct options:

    • Monthly Cohorts: Candidates can join one of our cohorts, starting each month, for individuals pursuing Transition to Teaching.
    • Private Cohorts: For schools or districts with 10 or more candidates, we offer exclusive private cohorts tailored specifically to your needs.

Our programs ensure comprehensive training and a smooth transition into the teaching profession. Reach out to discover how we can partner with you to develop and support your educators.
