How It Works

Apply.

Begin by submitting your application. Once accepted, you’ll complete a short interview and attend a personalized orientation. From the start, you’ll feel supported and prepared to begin your journey toward becoming a licensed teacher in Indiana.

Learn.

You’ll complete self-paced online coursework that’s grounded in research and designed to prepare you for the classroom. Along the way, you’ll build a professional portfolio, engage in fieldwork, and receive one-on-one support from your advisor and supervisor.

Train.

As part of your preparation, you’ll complete a full-time teaching internship in an Indiana school. This hands-on experience gives you the chance to apply what you’ve learned and grow your confidence in a real classroom setting.

Teach.

While completing your coursework and internship, you’ll take your required exams and apply for your Indiana teaching license. We’ll be with you through every step to make sure you’re ready to lead your own classroom.

How do I become a licensed secondary teacher in Indiana without an education degree?

If you have a bachelor’s degree in any field, you can become a licensed teacher in Indiana through Road2Teach’s Transition to Teaching program. Our online Secondary Education pathway prepares you to teach grades 5–12 in your chosen content area.

Which licenses does the Road2Teach Secondary Education program prepare candidates for?

You’ll be eligible to apply for the Indiana Professional Educator License in Secondary Education (Grades 5–12) in your subject area (e.g., English, Math, Science, Social Studies).

What are the admissions requirements for the Secondary Education Program?

R2T Secondary Education candidates must meet one of the following admission requirements :

  1. Possess a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited university with a GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 point scale. The degree must correspond to the subject content area in which the applicant seeks to be licensed.
  2. Possess a Master’s degree from a regionally accredited university in the subject area or related field in which the person wants to teach.
  3. Possess a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited university with a grade point average of at least 2.50 on a 4.0 point scale. The degree must correspond to the subject content area in which the applicant seeks to be licensed, and the applicant has five (5) years of relevant professional experience.
  4. Possess a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited university, and proof of passing state-approved content area examination(s) in the subject area.

As a part of the admissions process for Road2Teach Indiana, applicants must also submit the following in order to be considered for admissions:

  • A completed application
  • Current resume or curriculum vitae including all relevant professional experience,
  • Letter of interest explaining your interest in becoming an educator and fitness for the program,
  • Official transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate, if applicable, work completed at an accredited college or university.
  • Criminal Background Check.
  • Successful completion of an interview with Road2Teach Admissions staff.

What Praxis exams are required for Indiana secondary teacher licensure?

You’ll prepare for:

How long does the Road2Teach Secondary Education T2T program take to complete?

Most candidates complete the program in 12 to 18 months, depending on their schedule and pacing. The program includes online coursework, field experiences, and a 12-week teaching internship.

Can I participate in Road2Teach while working?

Yes! Road2Teach is designed for those taking “non-traditional” paths to education, whether through a career change or returning to the workforce after starting a family. Even among other EPP options, the virtual, self-paced, and personalized nature of Road2Teach makes it particularly suited for balance with life obligations.

How much does the Road2Teach Secondary program cost?

The cost of the Road2Teach program is $4,995. This includes access to all required coursework, support from your advisors, exam preparation tools, the vouchers for your first Praxis exam attempts, and professional development resources.

Some additional expenses are not included in this cost. These may include fees for background checks, textbooks, or state licensure fees.
